Enhanced Desktop - South West Water

The Enhanced Desktop project was part of a large 2 year long push at SWW to improve efficiencies in customer service, named 'Service Plus'.

Concept First was contracted to be technical lead on the project. We designed the system, and with help from a number of other developers successfully rolled it out after 6 months of work. It integrates with a number of their current technical systems including mapping, billing and enterprise resource planning.

The software is currently is use not only in the Call Centre at South West Water, but also in the 'Service Centre'. It speeds up work for the call handlers, and provides management information and visibility of SLAs to the service centre so they can better manage their resources and priorities.

Capacity Management for HP Openview - Mirador Software Ltd.

We were approached by Mirador Software, a company specialising in the analytical modelling of computer scalability and performance.

They were building a new product to integrate with the Hewlett Packard Openview platform. They provided the theory, and we wrote the software for them, over 18 months, working closely with HP to interface with their range of management software.

The software allows users very quickly to capture, view and model the performance of their computer systems inline with the ITIL recommendations for Capacity Management

Facilities Management and Budget Monitoring - Crown Prosecution Service

Concept First was asked to design and write two systems for the CPS, and we continue to support their maintenance and improvement.

The facilities management application records and monitors ongoing internal projects. It tracks information about projects, audits their progress, and allows entering of both time and expense claims again the cost of individual projects. This allows reports to show relative costs of both time and money broken down by area, project manager, financial year or as desired.

The budget monitoring app is very much about capturing yearly budgets for the organisation's premisses and monitoring spend vs. budget. Future expenditure (for example due to rent or utility bills) can be entered, and then reconciled against actual invoices

APART - University of Exeter Innovation Centre

This piece of work was provided to support psychological measurement of two issues of legal consequence to businesses: Corporate responsibility for employee driving skills, and 'sick building' syndrome.

Researchers design questionnaires and these are provided online on a website to companies using the service. The design process identifies which underlying factors a researcher is trying to score, and then allows questions to be entered that positively or negatively support the factors. Data is then provided in a form to researchers for further work in the statistical package SPSS.

Geoplanning - South West Water

The Geoplanning website was designed and built for the Asset Management team to capture and forecast future water and sewerage demands in the region as new houses are built.

It takes XML feeds from data suppliers about new planning applications, loads them into an Oracle database, and stores their location using Oracle's spatial features to provide data for mapping and GIS applications. Users edit and add further details and can report on the 'headroom' of current pumping stations, reservoirs, etc.
